The debut Le Mort [2003] from Australian The Day Everything Became Nothing is said to have caused quite a stir in the underground. The band includes members from Blood Duster and Fuck… I'm Dead. I'm not familiar with Le Mort so it's a little difficult to say if the band has evolved on Slow Death by Grinding. The music is slow in terms of what you usually hear in goregrind, but the ultra low guttural growls and I mean ultra low doesn't leave anything to be desired and that can also be said about the actual music. It's impossible to make out a single word of what is sung, so if you're one of those who can't stand when you can't hear what is barked out then this is definitely not for you. It sounds odd, but the music is also very groove-laden and strangely rock-like. It's definitely not something you stumble into everyday.

At first I really disliked the music but there's actually something very catchy about The Day Everything Became Nothing. The more I listen to the songs the better they become and in particular "Nothing But Death" is outstanding. It takes more than just a few spins to absorb Slow Death by Grinding but once it sinks in it's there to stay. There's also a cover of Satyricon's "Fuel For Hatred" and a good one it is. The band manages to give the song enough of their own identity to keep it interesting. What partly ruin the CD for my concern are the crappy "live audience" samples that have been placed on the alleged "live" track "Mortem", it sounds extremely stupid and totally spoils the song. If it wasn't for "Mortem" I would have rated the MCD slightly higher but a shitty stunt like that is equal with a lower grading than it otherwise would have gotten. If you're looking for something a bit different, then I suggest you check The Day Everything Became Nothing out. Their sound is anything but common.
