The self titled debut from Virginia's The Day Of The Beast is another generic effort in the long line of releases from bands trying to combine thrash, black and death metal. The Americans find inspiration in combos like Kreator, Morbid Angel and Emperor, but the result doesn't seem wholehearted. The vocals are like those of Kreator vocalist Mille Petrozza. It's not bad, but it just doesn't work as an asset. Despite of the many different influences the music never gets exciting.
Somehow the band is unable to come up with anything that makes The Day of the Beast interesting.
The songs are mostly mid-tempo orientated or slower and that tends to lull you to sleep. The band do know how to gear a step up or two once in a while and the band also sound the best when that happens, but the returning problem is that both the nerve and drive almost none present and as a whole that leaves The Day Of The Beast with very little to offer.
