Torture Throne is a French four-piece. The music is old school death metal strongly inspired by the Swedish scene. In particular the riffs and guitar sound makes me think of Dismember. However the music is a little slower than the Swedes and the way of singing is also different.

But a lot of the riffs sound like a copy of a Dismember song. "Conjuration of Supreme Agony" is a good example of that. There are a couple of solos here and there. It's nothing fancy, but the solos do add a little extra to the songs.

As you probably have figured out by now, the music that Torture Throne play is about as standard as it gets. Usually I don't automatically view that as problem, but when the five songs featured doesn't manage to be all that exciting it becomes an issue. I do like some of what the band is doing, but there is definitely some work to be done before it gets interesting.

But when that is said I do think that the band is on the right way. If you like that Dismember buzzsaw type of guitar tone and don't care about originality then I'm sure you'll like Thy Serpent's Cult.
