Unreal Overflows is yet another technical death metal outfit to come out of Spain. The band has gotten a lot of recognition for their 2003 demo Point of a New Departure and I can easily understand why. The Spaniards are heavily influenced by such pioneer bands like Death, Atheist, Cynic and Pestilence and this most definitely show in the music.
Particular the references to Death are noticeable. They are all over Architecture of Incomprehension and impossible to ignore, but the band add some finesses of their own so it doesn't sound like just another copycat kind of thing. The songs are diverse and each song is stuffed with cascades of extraordinary riffs. The quartet has a good ear for combining melody with technicality and heaviness. This makes Architecture of Incomprehension an interesting acquaintance. Moreover the unit adds a tiny bit of clean vocal in "Breeders of Credibility" and "Under the Quiet Silence" is a solely acoustic track. These things and more help colour things even more. It's clear that the band has absolute control over what they are doing. Never do they seem to loose the overview nor focus. Everything is thoroughly structured and nothing seem left to circumstances. Vocalist Zoilo Santiago reminds me a lot of Carcass vocalist Jeff Walker. His vocals suit the music well though they seem somewhat one-tracked compared to the music itself.
If you like death metal in the vein of the aforementioned bands and in particular Death then Architecture of Incomprehension is nearly impossible to get by. Sure Unreal Overflows may not be doing anything unheard, but they are immensely good at what they do.
