USIPIAN - Promo 2003
Released: 2003 | Label: Self-financed | Rating: 7/10 | Reviewer: PSL | Provided by: Usipian

01. Shadows of the Once Unseen
02. Clouded Restrainment

With a couple of changes in the line-up Danish death/black metallers Usipian are ready with their new promo CD. A CD that sounds somewhat different than their excellent self-financed 2001 MCD The Human Spirit Massacre. Gone are the keyboards and the music also seems a lot more inspired by pioneer death metallers Morbid Angel this time around.

Promo 2003 is a CD that just leaves you wanting more. The two songs on the promo are put together in a very skilled way. The music is very varied and it's beyond me why they haven't been picked up by any label yet. If Promo 2003 won't secure them a record deal, then I don't really know what can, 'cause Usipian totally blew me away with their amazing death metal that sorta lies somewhere in between Morbid Angel and Behemoth. But saying that Usipian sounds like a clone of the aforementioned bands would be totally unjust; they do have their own identity and sound, but you feel the references.

I seriously can't wait to hear more music from this brilliant band and rumor has it that they'll be working on their first full-length album this year. I'm not sure if you can buy Promo 2003 from the band, but I know they have samples of the songs on their site so do yourself the favour and check them out.
