Usually I'm not very fond of tribute CD's 'cause they often tend to sound second rate and seriously why bother getting such a tribute CD when you can listen to the original stuff but A tribute to Possessed… is actually among the better ones and with an impressive line-up of bands including Cannibal Corpse, Vader, Diabolic, Sinister, Houwitser, Amon Amarth etc. it certainly sets high expectations towards the quality and I can assure that they are all fulfilled.

A tribute to Possessed… is an homage to one of the bands, if not the band that created death metal. Many claim that Possessed's legendary album Seven Churches from 1985 was the first actual death metal album. One thing is certain Possessed have had a huge impact on the extreme metal scene so it's really no surprise that so many of the leading bands in this genre have chosen to appear on this tribute. Most of the bands on this tribute stays close to the original songs and the only ones who really add a little of their own to the songs are God Dethroned and Amon Amarth but nonetheless A tribute to Possessed… is still a very good CD.

If you're unfamiliar with the greatness of Possessed but is a little curious to know a little more of this great band then this tribute is a great place to start; sure none of these renditions beats the original recordings but still they provide a pretty good idea of how a pioneering band Possessed were.
