Breeding the Sick Species is a five way split CD put out by Thailand's Sick Chainsaws Productions. The bands featured come from different countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Australia, but common for the five bands is that they all, to some degree are inspired by grindcore.

The Malaysian four-piece Negation plays death metal with bits of grindcore. The music is mostly not all that fast and that adds to the death metal type of vibe. Many of the riffs are good and I like what the band do on "Better Than You" and some of the other songs". The songs are mostly short and straight to the bone and that is also what makes the music enjoyable.

I did not like what the pornfreaks in Cardiac Necropsy did on the Sixxxteen Years of Anal Addict CD and I'm not all that fond of what the Singaporean five-piece show on the six songs featured, but it's better than what I've heard prior to this. There are some alright riffs and a few catchy parts here and there, but overall the music is not very exciting. Like before the band use a lot of samples and it doesn't exactly make the music more interesting because none of these fit very well.

Extreme Decay is from Indonesia. The band plays grindcore with a strong vibe of punk and hardcore. The music is simplistic and not different from so much else in the genre. Many of the riffs are catchy and the band comes up with some good parts here and there. The vocals are the typical shouting type often used in grindcore. The music is above all conventional, but I like that the band is able to provide the songs with some personality.

The Thai five-piece Masochist plays death metal mixed with some grindcore. Like Extreme Decay the band also has some punk and hardcore type of inputs now and then. These add a lot to the feel of the music and gives it laid back feel when the band plays slow. Masochist has two vocalists and that of course adds a lot to the diversity of the music.

To some degree I liked what Australians Beyond Terror Beyond Grace did on Extinction/Salvation and on the Still Human, Still Humane? MCD, but like on those efforts the Australian grindcore four-piece have a poor production and that have an effect on the music in a bad way. The 14 songs are straight forward grindcore and don't differ from what the band already have done.

Breeding the Sick Species may not be the most exciting split CD put out, but I think it's a good way to check out some bands from Asia that otherwise probably wouldn't get much attention outside of the region.
