Da Grind is a split CD featuring four French death/grindcore bands. The first band and also the most interesting one is Disaster. They play brutal and extremely fast death/grind. The songs are fairly good and diverse. The band occasionally lowers the pace a little so the music doesn't appear as a wall of sound. Particularly "Decline of Humanity" appeared worthwhile. The vocals vary between being ultra low guttural growls and frantic screaming. It works well and adds to the diversity of the songs. Next is grindcore freaks Elysium and they are the band that I favour the least as their music quickly gets strenuous to listen to. The main reason why is the vocals which more or less is just trivial screaming and it gets annoying almost immediately. The music itself is more diversified though it's not overly interesting either, but the vocals are what turn off the light for my concern.

Sickbag is the third band featured on Da Grind. The style is grindcore added a bit of groove. The songs are quite memorable, but I liked the song "1984" in particular. The band keeps a moderate pace for a grindcore band and it's actually nice to hear a band that doesn't just blast ahead all the time. Last up is Desecrator. Their interpretation of grindcore is not very gripping. The band blasts ahead with some rather monotone and boring songs. I fail to hear anything interesting their music despite several listens. Da Grind is a mixed bag of goodies with a bit for everyone. Since I only like two of the bands featured I can't give the album more than five in score, but Da Grind is worth a purchase if you're looking for some deep underground grindcore.
