I happened to like the previous Recollection DVD to a degree, even though it wasn't as stuffed with death metal as I perhaps could have wished for, but the third and latest instalment kind of make up for this. Recollection 3 is built up menu-wise the exact same way as the predecessor which means you have you have to see the album cover and details every time you want to see a video. I don't think the setup worked overly well on the previous DVD, and I feel the same way with the new one, but with regard to the music I find Recollection 3 far more interesting.

The quality of the videos is way better this time, but the videos from Zeke, Trail Of The Bow and Amorphis lower the overall impression. The video for "Against Widows" is directly bad with regard to picture resolution and approach, but it's not a new video so I guess I can't complain too much about that, but I could have done without that video even though the song is good. The videos from Zeke and Today Is The Day are kind of boring too, and the same goes for Trail Of The Bow and Skinless.

The Skinless video is taken from their DVD Skinflick. The song is good, but the video is boring and is taken a bit out of context so it doesn't work well. The real highlights on Recollection 3I is the videos from Suffocation, Nile, Cephalic Carnage, Pig Destroyer and Mastodon. They are all of a high standard, perhaps not effect wise, but they are not just boring live clips. The content is not quite as diverse as last time, but it suits me fine that there's more death metal featured.

All in all Recollection 3 is a step up compared to Recollection 2, but there's still room for additional improvement, but the DVD is a nice collection of Relapse bands, and it's far more interesting than the traditional CD compilation. I'll round this review up by quoting from the sleeve of the DVD: 'seeing is believing' as this perfectly sums up the DVD.
