I have somewhat ambivalent feelings towards compilations for various reasons. One of them being the fact that they are often flooded with pretty useless and somewhat boring stuff, but I guess that depends on the ears listening. The Horror Hive isn't strictly limited to including bands on the Razorback rooster, but besides that the compilation doesn't differ a whole lot from the majority of other compilations out there perhaps with exception that it does feature a few unsigned bands which I find a cool thing.

On the other hand the compilation gives you an idea of what is worth checking out and what is not and that of course is what it's all about. So if you're looking for a cheap way to check out a lot of bands then The Horror Hive is definitely worth picking up. Plus it doesn't make it less appealing that there is previously un-released stuff from Engorged, Lord Gore, Fondlecorpse, Embalming Theatre, Funerot, F.K.U. and Impaled. But it's also pretty hard to ignore the stuff from Frightmare, Fuck… I'm Dead, Splatterhouse, Haemorrhage, General Surgery, The County Medical Examiners and so on. All in all this is a decent compilation that is hard to avoid if you consider yourself a fan of extreme and brutal music.
