VELOCIDAD ABSURDA - Reborn for the Extermination

COUNTRY: Spain
FORMAT: CD
LABEL: Hecatombe Records
YEAR: March, 2011

RATING: 5/10

Velocidad Absurda is a Zaragoza located trio. The music is brutal American inspired death metal in the vein of Disgorge and Brodequin, and I like that. However it's difficult to ignore the poor production. Overall the music isn't all that tight or brutal. A lot of the problem is that the guitars tend to be thin and the drums hollow. That does wear off on the music in an unfortunate way. I'm sure a thicker and a more dense sound would make a difference in terms of brutality.

I like that the riffs are gritty and chuggy, but I do miss some catchy riffs or parts for diversity. The catchy bits and pieces are almost nonexistent. That is also why most of the songs are too banal or anonymous to be exciting.

It's not like that the band doesn't try to be diverse. The trio is good at varying the pace, but it's just that the riffs are uninspired and standard. I'm not saying that the Spaniards need to reinvent the wheel all over again, but some catchy bits would have been nice.

The vocals are standard as well. It's a low end growl mixed with lots of pig squeals. The pig squeals do get a little too much now and then, but overall it goes well with the music.

I wouldn't say Reborn for the Extermination is a bad effort. It's just a death metal CD that is as standard as it comes.
