VERATRUM - Sangue
GENRE: Death / black metal
LABEL: Self financed
YEAR: October 2010
REVIEWED BY: PSL
PROVIDED BY: Veratrum
Veratrum is an Italian four-piece. The band plays death metal mixed with bits and pieces of black metal and doom. The first song "Sangue" is mostly death metal in the vein of Incantation, but the band also fit in various other inputs.
The references to black metal is often noticeable in the music and vocals, whereas the doom inspiration just pop up in "L'Ora E' Giunta". On the whole the music is diverse and the four Italians have some exciting ideas. The song-writing is good. There's a nice balance between the fast and slow in the songs.
My biggest problem with Sangue is the production. It doesn't profit the music much in terms of brutality or tightness. It's nothing that constitutes a major problem, but it does wear off on the music.
Sangue is an alright demo that confirm the bands potential. With a little more work Veratrum could become an interesting band to follow.
