In the past known as Contortion the Swedish death metal band Volturyon debut with Blood Cure, but the name change is not an indication of a change in style.
The music is largely a continuation of what the Swedes did on their demo. But what worked well on the demo is somehow not that exciting on Blood Cure. Volturyon's technical American styled death metal work well in moderate doses, but in larger portions the music gets a bit too anonymous and dreary. There are just too few intriguing moments on Blood Cure to make it exciting.
The songs that work the best are the titletrack and the reworked songs from the demo. The production doesn't exactly profit the music much either as it's dry, sterile and without any crispness.
It's rare that a band get everything right on their debut and Blood Cure is not any different. No doubt that Volturyon have some good ideas, but the band should work a little more on the surprising elements in the songs as these are almost nonexistent today.
