I liked Terrorize, Brutalize, Sodomize a lot, but Carnage Euphoria do exceed what I had hoped for. Vomitory continues where the band left of on Terrorize, Brutalize, Sodomize. The music feels even faster and brutal. Despite the brutal and in your face approach, Vomitory has created a diverse and interesting CD.
The music is consistent and I like that the band blasts a lot. Songs like “Possessed”, “The Carnage Rages On” and “A Lesson in Virulence” are really straight forward and in your face, but at the same time with many switches in gear so things don’t go and get repetitive and boring. It’s obvious that the Swedes are routined song-writers. The music has the right amount of brutality, mid-tempo parts and variety to stay interesting.
I hear some likeness with Deicide and Slayer in the song “Deadlock”, but the Slayer references are also obvious in “The Carnage Rages On”, “Serpents” and “Ripe Cadavers”. It does now and then seem like Vomitory have been listening to Reign in Blood when they wrote those songs.
Carnage Euphoria has what you’d expect from a brutal old school death metal album – tons of smashing riffs and solos, lots of fast drumming, harsh vocals and a fat, chunky bass.
The production is just right. It’s meaty and crunchy, but in a way so nothing tends to vanish. It’s possible to hear everything that’s going on. The guitars have that dirty Swedish ring to them, but besides that the music isn’t all that typical Swedish.
No doubt that Vomitory is at the height of its powers. It will be interesting to hear if the band can top Carnage Euphoria on the next effort.
