On Passion of Perversity Slovenia's Vulvathrone play some brutal death metal mixed with a bit of grindcore. The four-piece is inspired by Lividity, Dying Fetus and Brutal Truth among others. The inspiration from Lividity is the most obvious and it's not like the band differs a whole lot from so much else in the genre, but the music is well played and that is what it comes down to.

The song-writing is proficient and the band is good at making things diverse so it doesn't get boring. The four-piece mostly plays fast, but not in a way where it becomes too much. I like that the band often slows down a bit and make way for some groovy parts.

Something that annoys me a lot is the samples used. Most of these are spoken pieces and don't add anything to the songs other than irritate, like on "Kurbovje". It could have worked as an asset if it was done in a more vivid way like XXX Maniak or Throatplunger has done it.

The vocals are standard, but just like the music these are diverse and change between a burping type of vocals and a more common type of growl. The production is grimy and arid and is more in the vein of a grindcore production than death metal. It doesn't add much to the music in terms of brutality, but it does fit the music to some degree.

Passion of Perversity is a conventional effort, but that doesn't make it bad. If you like brutal death metal that oozes of porn and filth then you should give these four Slovenians a chance.
