For some reason I'm always really sceptic when it comes to one-man bands. I guess mostly due to that I've heard my share of atrocities. I was naturally quite sceptic too when I learned that Wrath was a one-man band, but my scepticism immediately proved to be unjust.

I noticed right away that the drums are programmed, but it's done very well. It doesn't seem too apparent or artificial. Thorben Rathje have handled everything himself, including the programming, the recording and mixing. The music is death metal with a stint of black metal. There are references to Slayer, Diabolic, Deicide and Necrophobic which suits me fine. Musically there's nothing new here at all, but the songs are well-written and diverse and this is what counts. A thing I like is that there are quite a few leads here and there. It adds further to the variation in the soundscape. Among the Suffering is finished of with a rendition of Slayer's "Haunting the Chapel".

There may not be anything unheard on Among the Suffering, but it doesn't make it a less impressive demo. If you like your metal in the vein of the bands I mentioned earlier on then Among the Suffering is definitely worth a closer listen.
